What are Miscellaneous itemized deductions?
Miscellaneous itemized deductions are a category of personal tax deductions that were historically available to taxpayers who itemized on Schedule A, covering expenses such as unreimbursed employee costs, tax preparation fees, and investment advisory fees, subject to a 2% adjusted gross income floor. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act permanently eliminates these deductions for all taxpayers for tax years beginning after December 31, 2025. Educator expenses are the sole exception, remaining deductible under Section 162. W-2 employees should consider Health savings account contributions as a replacement tax strategy.
